1 year to go

My 24th birthday was last Saturday, which means I only have one year to complete everything on my list. I've only marked one thing off the list so far...so that means there are still 24 things to do. Luckily I took care of the 5K early, it is starting to get HOT in Texas.

Thanks to everyone who made my birthday so special. It was such a great day! I love birthdays!

Thank you Kara for sending the Birthday Crown all the way from China and the rockin birthday message in 3 languages! What a great way to start a birthday off right!

Thank you to work for giving me a Wal-Mart gift card at our end of the year meeting this week. Now I can finally run in style.

Thank you to mom and dad. They are just what I wanted.

And a big thank you to my sweet husband John. The only guy I know who is brave enough to buy his wife clothes for her birthday. I love you!

John and I are going to see these guys in June at the House of Blues because they're pretty much awesome. I have no clue what this video is all about, but I kind of like it.

#1. Run a 5K

Finally, after a year of talking about it...and a month and a half of actually training for it...I ran my first 5K. I'm going to call it a success, even though I wish I had finished a little faster. My official time was 32.30 minutes. Not too bad for my first attempt at any kind of athleticism...ever. I finished...and that was really the goal for the first one.

I suprisingly started to enjoy running. I am planning to run another 5K at the end of May, and then start training for a 10K. That may be a little ambitious, but I think I can do it.

The 5K was so fun. It was a fundraiser for Laura's track team at DBU. I love that I got to run my first 5K with my favorite people!

And can you believe it? We all placed in our divisions! Those are not certificates of participation...those are actual awards!

Even John's mom participated...and got 3rd place in her division.

Look Dad...aren't you proud? You didn't know you raised such athletic girls, did you?

Now that I can cross the 5K off my list, and I picked up running as a new hobby, I have a few goals in mind:

April 2010 Take the leap and buy a real pair of running shoes. I figure it I spend that much money on a pair of shoes, I won't be likely to quit on the hobby anytime soon.
May 29th Fireman's 5K in Fort Worth
Goal: Run it in under 30 minutes and get that I-pod John promised me
Sept. 2010 Run my first 10K

Hold me to these! I need some accountability. Especially in the hot summer months to come. I have a feeling it might be a little tough to run in July in Texas. Treadmill here I come!

Under Construction

So, in a last attempt to revive my blog, I decided to scratch the whole thing and start over. And unlike my other blog, which I sporadically updated with little thoughts or pictures, this blog has a purpose. On this blog I plan to record my successes and failures as I attempt to achieve each one of my 25 goals before I turn 25.

I like this idea for a few reasons. The first is that it will give me a purpose in my blogging. I think I will be much more likely to update if I have a reason to do so. Another reason I like this is that it will force me to take pictures. I have been slacking big time lately when it comes to pulling out the camera. Maybe because it is usually me taking a picture of John, or me holding out the camera so I can take a picture of the two of us. You can only take so many self portraits before they start to all look the same. But, that is no excuse for not taking pictures. I’d rather have a thousand self portraits than no pictures at all.

So, just to refresh your memory, here is my list of 25 things to do before I turn 25. This is the list I will be working through for the next year and one month. Hopefully there are more success than failures…and lots of amazing memories along the way.
